The First windows 7 Screenshots

Windows 7Two screenshots have been released for Windows 7, one of Windows 7 build 7600 and one of Windows Server 2008 R2 build 7600. Both of the screenshots were taken in the About Calculator application with Aero not enabled in either screenshot. Reports all over the internet are looking at a build 7600 for both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. The reason people are buzzing about this is because this bump in the build number would mean that Microsoft has named this build as the RTM build, or Release to Manufacturer build. It is expected that the RTM build is to be given out to Microsoft partners later this month and should be officially launched on October 22, 2009.

Looking at the build string, which is "7600.16384.090710-1945", we can tell this was compiled on July 10,2009 at 7:45pm. Only when the build number reaches a significant goal does Microsoft increment it. The only build left is the RTM milestone. All the builds that were last leaking were 72xx builds which makes this large bump suspicious. Yet we could see Microsoft doing this to signify that this is the final build.

Earlier this week, Microsoft had reported that it discovered some show-stopping bugs in the system that would delay the RTM. However, if build 7600 is legitimate, then it would appear that Microsoft has found a way around the problem. Even though this build is currently in the process of being leaked to the public, it is recommended that you use caution with build 7600 due to the fact that Microsoft has yet to confirm or deny its existence. It has also been rumored that Microsoft was aiming at compiling the RTM build on July 13, 2009 but for all we know, build 7700 could become the RTM build. Below are the two screenshots currently out for Windows 7.
